A message from Mr. Hissem about some of our new initiatives.
At Van Buren County CSD, we recognize that situations may arise where parents, community members, or employees have concerns that need to be addressed. We believe in the importance of resolving issues at the most direct level possible, starting with open communication between those involved. Your feedback and proactive engagement help strengthen our school community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and discuss your concerns directly with the relevant staff member first. Together, we can foster understanding and find solutions.
We're reaching out to share some important changes related to attendance and chronic absenteeism due to the recently passed legislation, Senate File 2435. This law addresses several educational issues, including chronic absenteeism and attendance requirements.
Under this new legislation, chronic absenteeism is defined as missing more than 10% of the days in a grading period. Our district is now required to define chronic absenteeism, adopt a policy to address attendance, and implement a plan to support families of students who are chronically absent.
We understand there are many factors that can cause a student to miss school, and we want you to know that we’re here to help. Your child’s success is important to us, and being present at school is a key part of that success. If you have questions, concerns, or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s school office.
