2011 Campaigns

The Van Buren County SAFE Coalition has launched two new ad campaigns beginning September 2011 and running through the month of September 2012. The campaigns are intended for the adults of Van Buren County– not just parents– but adults. Everyone can have an impact on the lives of youth if they pay attention to the youth through the simple measures of the “GOT A MINUTE” campaign themes– Think About It and Clear the Smoke.

46% of Van Buren County teens report that they get their alcohol from a parent, brother/sister or friend (21 or older). This statistic led the coalition to take action and remind these people that it is against the law to purchase alcohol for anyone under the age of 21. Also on the Iowa Youth Survey it was found that the numbers of youth using marijuana is staying the same and not rising. This is good news but the coalition still wants to keep the issue on the forefront and deal with it. A variety of media materials will be canvassing the community to keep these messages fresh in the mind of the public. They can be seen in the newspapers and newsletters, on a billboard, on handouts to be shared at community events and on posters and banners in businesses that sell alcohol. There will also be PSA’s that will be on local radio stations. Be watching and listening for these over the next year and remember; be a responsible adult, don't buy for minors and help reduce underage drinking and marijuana use in Van Buren County.

2009 Campaign

The Van Buren County SAFE Coalition is launching a new ad campaign beginning this December and running through the month of May.  The campaign is intended for the adults of Van Buren County– not just parents– but adults. Everyone can have an impact on the lives of youth if they pay attention to the youth through the simple measures of the “GOT A MINUTE” campaign themes– Ask Me, Talk to Me & Eat with Me.

You will see these messages displayed throughout the community on table tents, posters, newspaper ads, our newsletter, a billboard and other venues of interest. The coalition encourages you to make a difference in the life of a youth through this campaign. Each message offers a different tactic for adults to become involved in the lives of a teen. Each ad is a call to action, suggestions on ways to improve your communication while presenting supporting statistics about how their involvement can reduce the chances of underage drinking.
